Fireflies or Dalm: where your meeting turns into text, and where it goes next

Published · Updated

Dalm and Fireflies both turn calls and meetings in the room into transcripts and summaries, and both can do it with no bot in the call. Fireflies can also send a bot that keeps the recording, has apps for the web, Windows and phones, and sends notes into Salesforce, HubSpot and other tools. Dalm is a Mac app: speech is recognised on your Mac and no audio is sent anywhere, while the transcript goes to our servers automatically and a language model reads it to write the summary. Fireflies suits a sales team that lives in its CRM; Dalm, someone who wants the audio to stay off every server.

Where Fireflies is better than Dalm

  • A bot when you want one, and a recording you can keep. Its Notetaker joins the call and saves the meeting’s audio and video; from the Pro plan up you can download them as MP3 and MP4. Dalm never sends a bot and keeps no recording to download.
  • The transcript while the call is on. Fireflies shows a real-time transcript in its desktop app; Dalm shows a preliminary draft and makes the transcript when you stop.
  • Phones and other computers. Apps for the web, Windows, iPhone and Android, a phone app that records a meeting in person, and iPhone calls captured through a Mac. Dalm needs a Mac with Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later; its iPhone app is in development.
  • Notes that reach your CRM by themselves. Fireflies connects to more than 50 apps, among them Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive and Slack, on every plan including Free, and on Business it can draft HubSpot contact and deal updates from a call. Dalm connects to Google Calendar.
  • Questions across every meeting. Its assistant answers across all your meetings; Dalm answers about one meeting per question, and a question across every recording is in development.
  • Written promises about models and vendors. Fireflies’ privacy policy says it does not use personal information to train AI models, forbids its vendors to, and that vendors keep no meeting content after processing; its security page lists GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA. Dalm does not train models of its own, but what the provider of its language model does with the text is not set out on this site, and Dalm has no certification.
  • Dictation that tidies itself. Fireflies Talk cleans up and formats what you say for the app you are in; Dalm types the recognised words as they are, with your dictionary of names and terms.
  • A lower price for a team. Fireflies Business is $29 a month for each user, or $19 billed annually, and Pro billed annually is $10; Dalm Team is $40 a month for each member and Pro billed annually is $12 (paid plans are not open yet).

Where Dalm is better than Fireflies

  • No one else hears the audio. Fireflies’ privacy policy names vendors that help analyse meeting recordings, and speech-to-text providers that receive the audio of Talk dictations, which it says keep none of it after processing. In Dalm speech is recognised on your Mac, from meetings and dictation alike, and the audio is not sent anywhere. The text does leave: transcripts and dictations sync to our servers automatically, and a language model reads a meeting’s transcript to write its summary.
  • Voices told apart with nothing in the call. Fireflies’ help recommends its Notetaker bot when you need speaker labels. Dalm separates the voices of a call or a room with no bot, and you can name them afterwards.
  • Room for every recording. No plan puts a limit on recording minutes, on the length of a recording, or on how long anything is kept. The free plan of Fireflies keeps 400 minutes of recordings for each seat, and asks you to delete older files to make room.
  • The summary is built on your notes. The lines you type during the meeting are the spine of the summary, and every point comes with the exact words that were said. Every quote shows you where it was said — open it and the transcript opens at that place. Action items and decisions from all your meetings collect in two running lists.
  • One place for what you say. Everything you say lands in one archive you can search: meetings, phone calls, conversations in the room, and what you dictate to a model. Asking one question across all of it is still in development.

What each one costs, and what the free plans keep

FirefliesDalm
Free planMeetings it joins are transcribed without a cap; 400 minutes of storage for each seat; 20 AI credits a month; downloading transcripts needs a paid planFree: a plan, not a trial
Billed monthlyPro $18 a month for each user; Business $29Pro $16 a month; Team $40 for each member
Billed annually, per monthPro $10; Business $19; Enterprise $39Pro $12; Team $32 for each member
Storage on paid plansPro 8,000 minutes for each user; Business and Enterprise team-wide, with no capSee below

For Dalm, the Free plan is a plan rather than a trial. No plan puts a limit on recording minutes, on the length of a recording, or on how long anything is kept. A meeting’s recording, transcript and summary are part of the Free plan, and what Pro and Team add is set out on the pricing page; how a team shares one workspace covers the shared dictionary, templates and tags, and the dictations only their author can see. While Dalm is not public, the way in is the waitlist. Fireflies’ figures are its regular prices from its own help pages, checked on .

Where your notes go after the call

Fireflies is built to hand notes on: it connects to more than 50 apps, among them Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Zoho, and on its Business plan it reads a call’s transcript and drafts updates to the contact, company and deal in HubSpot. All of its integrations are on the Free plan; downloading a transcript needs a paid one. A summary or document saves as Markdown, Word or PDF, and the macOS Share menu sends it to Mail, Messages, Notes or AirDrop. A meeting can also go into your Mac’s calendar or Google Calendar. If your notes have to reach a CRM without you, Fireflies describes doing exactly that.

A sales team with a CRM, or one person on a Mac

  • Fireflies, if you sell or support customers as a team and your notes belong in a CRM, if you want a bot that joins every call and a recording you can download, or if people work on Windows, in a browser or from their phones.
  • Dalm, if you work on a Mac, run client calls and conversations across a table, and want the audio of both, and of what you dictate, to stay off everyone else’s computers; the text still syncs to our servers.
  • Neither, if you need a saved recording to listen to and also want no audio to leave your computer: Fireflies saves the recording through its bot, and Dalm keeps no recording to listen to.

Comparing more than two? Seven note takers side by side, each with where it beats us, and the same row-by-row comparison with a note taker that keeps your meetings in its cloud. Questions

Is Dalm a good Fireflies alternative?
Dalm is a Fireflies alternative for people on a Mac who want the speech of their calls, meetings in the room and dictation recognised on the Mac, with no audio sent anywhere. The text still leaves: the transcript syncs to our servers, and a language model reads it to write the summary. If your notes have to land in a CRM by themselves, or your team works on Windows and phones, Fireflies is the stronger choice.
How much does Fireflies cost?
Fireflies Pro is $18 a month for each user, or $10 a month billed annually; Business is $29, or $19 billed annually; Enterprise is $39 billed annually, and there is a Free plan. Dalm Pro is $16 a month or $12 a month billed annually, Team is $40 a month for each member, and there is a Free plan too. These are Fireflies' regular prices from its own help pages; the date is on this page.
What does the free plan of Fireflies include?
The Fireflies Free plan transcribes the meetings it joins without a cap, keeps 400 minutes of recordings for each seat, includes 20 AI credits a month, and needs a paid plan to download transcripts. Dalm's Free plan is a plan rather than a trial. No plan puts a limit on recording minutes, on the length of a recording, or on how long anything is kept.
Does Fireflies use my meetings to train AI?
Fireflies' privacy policy says it does not use personal information for AI model training, contractually forbids its vendors to, and that vendors keep no meeting content after processing. Dalm does not train models of its own; what the provider of its language model does with the text is not set out on this site. The audio is a different matter: it is recognised on your Mac and not sent anywhere, while the transcript syncs to our servers.
Can Fireflies record a meeting without a bot?
Yes. Fireflies' desktop app records calls, phone calls and conversations in the room with Take Notes and no bot, and in that mode it saves no audio or video file; its Chrome extension records the audio of Google Meet without a bot too. Its help recommends the bot when you need speaker labels. Dalm records with nothing in the call as well, and separates the voices.
Does Fireflies keep the audio of my meetings?
Fireflies keeps the audio and video when its bot records the meeting, and keeps no audio file when its desktop app records without a bot. In Dalm the audio is deleted once the text exists. What remains is the transcript with times and voices, which syncs to our servers.
