When Scribie is the better choice
- A person has to check the transcript. Scribie’s transcripts are human-verified. Dalm’s are made by speech recognition, and checking them is your job.
- It is for court or a formal record. Scribie offers legal transcription with custom formatting, and precision verbatim as an option.
- You would rather not install anything. With Scribie you upload a file in a browser and download the transcript or edit it online. Dalm is an app you install on a Mac.
- You are not on a Mac. Scribie is a web service. Dalm is a Mac app for Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later.
- A security review asks for reports. Scribie states SOC 2 Type II. Dalm holds no certification.
When Dalm is the better choice
- The file is not uploaded. Drop in an interview or a call — audio or video from 0.3 seconds to four hours, on the Free plan — and Dalm reads it on your Mac: “The file is processed on this Mac · the original stays where it was”. No audio is sent anywhere. The transcript made from it syncs to our servers automatically. How local and cloud recognition differ.
- No charge by the minute. No plan puts a limit on recording minutes, on the length of a recording, or on how long anything is kept.
- Meetings and dictation in the same app. Dalm records calls and conversations across a table and types what you dictate into any app. Everything you say lands in one archive you can search: meetings, phone calls, conversations in the room, and what you dictate to a model.
- Quotes that lead back. In each summary, every point keeps a word-for-word quote. Every quote shows you where it was said — open it and the transcript opens at that place.
Looking for a Scribie alternative?
If you transcribe your own interviews and calls often and would rather not upload them, Dalm does it on your Mac, with no charge by the minute. The text still syncs to our servers, so it is not an app that keeps everything on one machine. If a transcript must be checked by a person, or formatted for court, Scribie is built for that. For interviews in particular, see transcribing an interview; transcription apps compared by name are on the transcription software page. Paid plans are on the pricing page.
