Note taker for founders

Every call is a different meeting. Dalm keeps them all.

Investor calls, team syncs, customer calls — each gets a review made for its kind of meeting.

A note taker for founders records the meetings only you can take — investor calls, board meetings, the all-hands — so you can do the talking and still have the record afterwards. Dalm is a Mac app that records the call without joining it. Speech is recognised on your Mac and no audio is sent anywhere; the transcript goes to our servers automatically, and a third-party language model reads it to write the summary and any document you ask for. There is a Free plan.

What a founder needs from the meetings nobody else can take

Some meetings only the founder can take: the pitch, the board, the all-hands, the call when something has gone wrong. In each of them you are the one talking, which makes you the worst-placed person in the room to write it down. Afterwards you still have to know what an investor asked you to send, what the board agreed to, which question from the team you promised to come back on, and who said they would do what. What helps is the other side’s own words on those points, and a way to lay this conversation next to the one before it.

Calls with investors, rooms with the team

On a call, Dalm records your microphone and the sound of the other apps on your Mac; nobody joins the meeting, so an investor sees no bot in the call. When Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack or FaceTime takes the microphone, the app offers to record; a call that was never in your calendar starts with ⌃⌥M or the Meeting button. A board meeting or an all-hands in a room is recorded through your Mac’s microphone. Step by step, recording is covered for Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.

Investor meetings, board meetings and all-hands: what you get after each

Dalm works out from the conversation what kind of meeting it was and shows that at the top of the meeting; you cannot choose or change it, and when it is not sure, the meeting is filed as a general one. These are meetings a founder runs that it can recognise, and what you get after each:

The meetingWhat you get after itWhat it is for in your work
An investor meeting or a pitchA one-screen summary, and a follow-up letterThe letter is the one to send after the call: what was agreed and the next step, without your internal notes
A board meetingA one-screen summary, and a draft of the formal record with the agenda and each decision, marked as a draftA first draft for the secretary to check against the room
An all-handsA one-screen summary, and a follow-up letterThe letter, to send everyone what was said and what happens next, the people who missed it included
A crisis callA one-screen summary, and a list of who does what by whenThe list: who is handling what, and by when, while things are still moving

After any of them you have the transcript and a summary that is written without you asking, in which each point keeps the words it came from and anything nobody said is left blank rather than guessed; the documents take one click. What you get after a board meeting is a draft to check against the room: attendance, the quorum, the vote counts and the signatures are for the secretary, and who fills in each part is laid out in the board meeting minutes template. If you want the same document after every investor call — say, the questions you were asked and what you promised to send — describe it once in your own words as a template and tick the box to build it for each new meeting. Your one-to-ones with the team have a page of their own.

What leaves your Mac after an investor call, and what does not

An investor’s voice is recognised on your Mac and is never sent anywhere as audio. The audio is deleted once the text exists. The words do leave: the transcript goes to our servers automatically, there is no setting that keeps it on the Mac, and a language model run by a third party reads it to write the summary and any document you ask for. On our servers the text is kept with no set expiry, for as long as your account, or the team workspace the meeting belongs to, exists. The same holds for a director at a board meeting and for everyone at an all-hands. What is kept where is set out on the privacy page.

Keeping the round, the board and the company apart

Give each round, each board and each project a tag — one of eight colours or one of your own — and the same tags work for your dictations. The list of meetings filters by tag, by person, by period and by the kind of meeting, and search reads transcripts, meeting names and descriptions and the text of every document, though not your notes. Next to your personal workspace you can be in a team — your company’s — and switch between the two. A meeting goes into whichever workspace was selected when it was scheduled, or when its recording started if it was not, and it cannot be moved to the other one later. Meetings belong to a workspace, and in a team one they can be seen by other people in the team, depending on their role; who sees whose meetings is on the team page. If a co-founder is removed from the team, the meetings they recorded there stay with the team and their dictations go with them; when ownership of a team is handed over, the previous owner becomes a moderator.

From one investor conversation to the next

Everything you say lands in one archive you can search: meetings, phone calls, conversations in the room, and what you dictate to a model. Dalm’s assistant answers questions about one meeting at a time; asking one question across all your records is in development. When the app treats a new meeting as part of a series with earlier ones, whatever was left open can come back in the new summary when the app judges it came up again, showing when it first came up and how often it has come up since. Your meetings of the same kind with different investors count as one series, so a point left open with one fund can be offered in a meeting with another. It is carried over only when the app judges it came up again; otherwise it shows as “Possibly a continuation”. Look at every carried-over point before you forward a summary. What was agreed in your meetings lands in one task list ordered by due date, where you can keep to your own tasks, and decisions go into a log by month that you can search by its words or by the meeting’s name. In the summary, every point keeps the words it came from. Every quote shows you where it was said — open it and the transcript opens at that place.

What to tell investors and your team before you record

Dalm joins no call and announces nothing, so saying that you are recording is up to you; before your first meeting, the app reminds you of that. Whether an agreement with an investor, your board’s own rules or your company’s policy allow a conversation to be transcribed and kept by an outside service is for them to settle, not for this page. What you can tell people is what happens to their words: the audio stays on your Mac and is deleted, and the text goes to our servers and is read by a third-party language model. At an all-hands, say it to the room before you begin. The rules on recording consent differ by place.

When Dalm is not the right fit for a founder

  • When an investor or a director asks that the conversation not be kept outside the room, even as text. The transcript goes to our servers, and a language model reads it.
  • When you want the recording itself — to hear the pitch again or send someone a clip. The audio is deleted once the text exists, and there is nothing to play back.
  • When the board needs its minutes straight out of an app. After a board meeting you get a draft; attendance, the quorum, the votes and the signatures are the secretary’s.
  • When a monthly investor update has to come from all your meetings at once. The assistant works on one meeting at a time, and so does a document you ask for.
  • When you or your team work on Windows or on an Intel Mac. Dalm needs a Mac with Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later.
  • When the call is very short: a recording under 100 words is not counted as a meeting.

Free for a founder, Team for the company

The Free plan is a plan, not a trial, and recording, the transcript and the summary are on it. When the company grows into a team, the team shares one dictionary of terms, one set of templates and one set of tags; who sees whose meetings is on the team page. What the paid plans add is on the pricing page. Dalm needs a Mac with Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later and an account; until it is public, the way in is the waitlist.

Questions

Will an investor see a bot join the call?
No. Dalm records your microphone and the sound of the other apps on your Mac, and nothing joins the call. It tells nobody it is recording either, so saying so is up to you.
Who can read a recorded investor call?
The audio never leaves your Mac: speech is recognised there. The audio is deleted once the text exists. The transcript is text on our servers, and a third-party language model reads it to write the summary. In a team workspace, other people in the team may see the meeting depending on their role — see the team page; a guest you invite reads only that one meeting.
Can what it writes after a board meeting be our minutes?
What goes into the minutes, and whether they are approved, is for the board and its secretary. After a board meeting you get a draft to check against the room: attendance, the quorum, the vote counts and the signatures are the secretary's to fill in. Who fills in each part is in the board meeting minutes template.
Can it write my monthly investor update?
Not from all your meetings at once: the assistant answers about one meeting at a time, and asking one question across all your records is in development. You can describe once, as a template, what you want after every investor call — say, what you were asked and what you promised — and the tasks and decisions from your meetings are gathered in two lists to work from.
What happens to meetings when a co-founder is removed from the team?
The meetings they recorded in the team workspace stay with the team, and their dictations go with them. If ownership of the team is handed over, the previous owner becomes a moderator.
Is there a free plan for a founder?
Yes, and it is a plan rather than a trial: recording, the transcript and the summary are on it. What the paid plans add is on the pricing page. Dalm runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon · macOS 15.0 or later, needs an account, and until it is public the way in is the waitlist.
